The current X3 has been first offered back in 2010 as an updated version of the older model and since then it managed to quickly become the best selling luxury compact crossover on the market. However, because its design is starting to get dated, the car will receive a massive update with the 2017 BMW X3 which is actually going to be an all new model.
The codename for this is going to be G01 rather than F25 of the current model and it will be using a rear wheel drive platform which is great news considering that many people thought the car was going to use a front wheel drive chassis similar to that of the 2-Series active tourer.
While BMW has not said anything officially about the upcoming X3, it has been spied testing a few times already. The spied model was using the same body as the current X3 but it was longer than the current model as well as slightly wider.

2017 BMW X3 Release date and Price
The release date for the production model is likely going to be at the end of 2016 while the car will go into production in the early 2017.
The price should be similar to the current model, so the base model will cost around $40,000 while a fully equipped version could go well past $70,000.
Engine of BMW X3 2017
Under the hood of the upcoming 2017 BMW X3 there are going to be quite a few engines available, some of them new and some of them being carried over from the current generation.
The base model will likely make use of a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine while a diesel is also going to be available.
The news come in the form of a new hybrid which it will share with the 3 Series. This 2 liter petrol engine will be mated with an electric motor housed in the 8 speed automatic transmission.
It will offer around 240 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, all wheel drive as well as over 40 MPG on average, very impressive for a crossover.
The big news though come in the form of a potential M model which would use BMW’s own 3 liter twin-turbocharged inline 6 found on the M3 and M4.
This could make up to 430 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and it would allow the X3 to become the fastest crossover in its class by quite a big margin.
A diesel M model has also been rumored but it is unlikely to come any time soon, especially since the X5 M50d offers plenty of performance at a similar price tag.
BMW X3 Interior
On the inside, the 2017 BMW X3 is going to be bigger and better in pretty much every way. The car will be using better materials in order to provide its passengers with more comfort and on top of that, it will also be packed with technology.
There is also going to be a bigger boot as well as a potential 3 row version. Take into account though that the latter has not been confirmed by BMW just yet.
Exterior of BMW X3 2017
The exterior of the X3 will be similar but different than that of the current model. It will look like a BMW without a doubt but the front end is expected to share some of the design cues of the 3-Series with a new pair of headlights as well as a new grille.
At the back, the changes will be a bit bigger with new larger rear doors as well as slightly more raked windows in the back for a sportier design without compromising interior space.
